Obituary of G. Margaret Nerad

Margaret Nerad, age 102 formerly of 619 E. Fairchild Street, Iowa City died Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at the Wayne Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Monticello, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9am until services on Saturday at the funeral home. Gracia Margaret Wroblewski Nerad was born October 2, 1902 in rural Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Franz and Grace (Otten) Wroblewski. She attended country school in Jones County. On December 6, 1942, she married William “Bill” Nerad via telephone from Anamosa to a base in Texas where he was stationed during WWII. Upon his release from service the couple farmed in Cedar County for many years and later in Jones County. They moved to Iowa City in 1965. Bill died in 1982. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was the one in her family that provided care for her brother, August until his death at an early age, and also for her failing parents until their deaths. Her family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and 13 great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, one sister, and her husband, Bill.
