Dorothy Elaine Lynch Krause was born November 10, 1928, in Bangor, Maine the daughter of Charles H. and Mary A. (Thomas) Lynch. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bangor on November 25, 1928. She attended schools in Bangor graduating from St. John the Baptist High School. On December 31, 1951, she was united in marriage to Fred C. “Bud” Krause. The couple has lived in the Iowa City area for many years, and enjoyed wintering at Sun Vista, Yuma, AZ for over the past twenty-two years and summering at Lake Dehi in Iowa for the past five years.. They had lived there year around recently until returning to Iowa City in July of this year. For over twenty-five years Dorothy was employed by Northwestern Bell, later Qwest Telephone of Sioux City and Cedar Rapids retiring as a service representative 1979. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. During her employment she was selected by then Governor Branstad to serve on the first Credit Union Review Board, which she did for three terms. She served on the board of directors for Teleco Credit Union of Cedar Rapids/Waterloo. In Arizona and here in Iowa she was known as an avid duplicate bridge player, often teaching others to play the game which she so loved. Another passion of hers was needlepoint, enjoying being able to share the many treasures that she made with her good friends and family. Her family includes her husband, Fred C. “Bud” Krause; children, Donna Gregg of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Fred Krause Jr. “Rick” of Iowa City; and Mark Krause and his wife, Christine of Rockford, IL; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Edward, Robert F. “Buddy”, and Paul Lynch. One of the many things that made Dorothy proud was the fact that she was born on the birthday of the United States Marine Corps, and the fact that both her sons served in the Marines. Dorothy so enjoyed her life, treasuring the many friends she had in Yuma and here in Iowa, but the blessing of her family was her greatest gift of all. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Dorothy’s family and her services.
