Obituary of Velma Roskup

Velma M. Roskup, age 88 of Iowa City died Thursday, November 10, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 8pm at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Velma’s memory. Velma Merie Ambrose Roskup was born March 9, 1917, in Washington County, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Rosa (Lasek) Ambrose. She attended schools in Washington, Iowa and Iowa City. On December 20, 1945 she married Peter N. Roskup in Rock Island, IL. The couple had lived all their married lives in this area and she did ironing in her home for families for many years. Peter died August 14, 1985. Her family includes her daughter, Sandra Stephenson and her husband, Daryl of Iowa City, two grandchildren, Michael Stephenson of Coralville and Colleen Zeien of Coralville; great-grandchildren, Austin and Catrina Zeien; her sister, Elsie Netser of North English, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Dorothy Juvan and Edith Ambrose; and three brothers, Farrel, Floyd and Elwin Ambrose.
