Obituary of Beverly Jean Bartos
Beverly Jean Bartos, age 79, a long time resident of Iowa City, died Monday, November 21, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held 1:30p.m. Friday, November 26, 2005, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Rebecca Clouse officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon on Friday until the services at the church. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton, Iowa. Memorial donations can be made in Beverlys memory to the American Diabetes Association. Beverly Jean Carlson Bartos was born January 28, 1926 in Tipton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Edwin and Myrtle (Makemson) Carlson. Following graduation from Tipton High School, she attended and graduated from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Iowa. In 1955, she married Frank R. Bartos in Cedar Rapids and moved to Africa. After returning from Africa, she became a practicing pharmacist at the University of Iowa; and then Drug Fair and Peoples Drug at Towncrest. She was a positive influence to all of the pharmacy interns that she helped to train. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi, Sweet Adelines, and the Lutheran Church Women of America. She was also a member of many bridge clubs one of her many hobbies taken up after retirement. She loved to read, knit, and root for the Hawkeyes! She is survived by her daughter, Karen Boyd and her husband, Bruce of Yardley, PA; three grandsons, Kristopher, Alexander, and Zachary Boyd; and her cat, Tipper. She is also survived by her adopted family and many loving friends. She was a good friend, a good mother, and will be sorely missed. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved sister, Virginia A. Carlson.
