Obituary of Jon J. Brunkhorst

Dr. Jon J. Brunkhorst, age 40 of Iowa City, formerly of Omaha, NE, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at his home in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2006, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Omaha with the Reverend Richard Piontkowski officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Omaha. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Sunday at John A. Gentleman Funeral Home (1010 N. 72nd. Street, Omaha), where a parish rosary will be recited at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Brunkhorst children. Jon J. Brunkhorst was born November 19, 1965, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa the son of John H. and Mary M. (Still) Brunkhorst. Following graduation from high school in 1984 in Ogallala, NE he enrolled at Creighton University in Omaha where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1988. He continued at Creighton where he received his Master of Science in Molecular Biology in 1990, and his Doctor of Medicine in 1994 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. As an anesthesiologist in private practice Dr. Brunkhorst worked in Kearney, NE from 1998 until coming to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa in August of 2005. He was a member of a number of professional organizations and memberships including the International Anesthesiology Research Society, and the American Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesia. While at Creighton he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity which he is still a member. His family includes his wife, Jeanette; two sons, John and Joey all of Iowa City; sister, Kristyn McEachen and her husband, Jack of Omaha; brother, Joel Brunkhorst and his wife, Catherine of Blair, NE; and a number of nieces and nephews.
