Obituary of Shari S. Chen-Hardee

Shari S. Chen-Hardee, age 49 of 2227 Hazel Court, Iowa City died at her home, surrounded by her family Thursday, January 26, 2006. Funeral services will at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2006, at the St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, Iowa with the Reverend Karl Heck officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a devotion service will be held at 7:45pm. Additional visitation will be after 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Church. Visitation will also be from 5 to 8pm Monday at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford, Iowa, where graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Fairview Cemetery. Shari Syou-Yu Chen-Hardee was born August 22, 1956 in Taipei, Taiwan, the daughter of Hsin-Tsun Lin and Yi Chen. She received her B.A. in Mathematics from Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan in 1981, her M.S. in Mathematics in 1987, M.S. in Statistics in 1990 and PhD in Epidemiology in 2005 all from the University of Iowa. She married Edwin Emory Hardee on May 18, 1987, in Bedford, Iowa. She has been a Research Assistant in Public Health through the University of Iowa. Her family includes her husband, Edwin; children, Perry Emory Hardee and Gina Ilene Hardee both at home; two sisters, Yu-Hui Lin and her husband, Der-Po Chen and Sue-Chen Lin and her husband, Mao-Nien Ko all of Taiwan; brothers, Ching-Lung Lin and his wife, Chun-Chaio Lin Young of Hawaii, H.L. Chen and his wife, Sui-Ching Chen of Boston, Yung-Lung Chen and his wife, Hsu-Wei Chen of Hawaii, Ming-Lung Lin and his wife, Ying-Po Jen of Hawaii, Yan-Shen Chen and his wife, Yueh-O Ko of Canada, and Chia-Hsing Lin and his wife, Mei-Jung Chang of Hawaii; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Yun-Lung Lin.. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Shari’s family and her services.
