I will forever remember how Mary greeted me and my wife when we visited my recently retired parents at The Cliffs in Leucadia, California in the late 1980's.
My father, Dale Bentz, was recently retired as head librarian at the University of Iowa and John and he were best of friends. In fact, it was John & Mary who suggested that they also escape the Iowa winters by staying oceanside for several months each year.
At the time, we were living in San Diego where I was a brokerage manager while my older brother, Dale, was living and working in the L.A. area. Since our parents' new winter retreat was located between us and an easy weekend drive, we visited often and saw much of John & Mary during those 5+ years.
I will never forget Mary's warm & gracious demeanor, bright & optimistic attitude and overall feeling of warmth toward others. She was an exceptional, delightful person and my thoughts & prayers go out to Dick, my former high school classmate, and his wonderful wife, Penny. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
With much love, Tom Bentz
