Obituary of Caroline J. Dryer
Caroline Dryer, age 84 formerly of Iowa City died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at a care facility in Austin, Texas. No local services are planned, memorial services were held in Austin. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is handling the arrangements. Family asked that any memorial donations be made in Carolines memory to the University of Iowa Foundation. Caroline Jane Major was born February 7, 1922 in Storm Lake, Iowa the daughter of Sidney and Florence (Alward) Major. She attended and graduated from Storm Lake Schools, and later received a BS in nursing from the State University of Iowa. She married Robert L. Dryer on October 22, 1944 in Newark, NJ. Following their marriage the couple lived in Pittsfield, MA and Indianapolis, IN prior to moving to Iowa City in 1954. Here her husband was a professor in the College of Medicine for many years until his death in 1984. During some of this time, Caroline was a nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals. In 2001 she moved to Austin to be nearer to her family. Carolines family includes two sons, Randall Dryer and his wife, Michelle of Austin, TX; and Stuart Dryer and his wife, Coco of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Spencer, Jennifer, Emily, Lauren, and Matthew; a brother, David Major of Hot Springs Village, AR; and a daughter-in-law, Andrea Jordan Dryer of Oelwein, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Joel Dryer; daughter, Sue Dryer; and a sister, Dorothy Strawn.
