Obituary of Doris Burger

Doris M. Burger, 81 formerly of the Iowa City and West Branch areas died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at the Lutheran Home in Muscatine, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a parish vigil service will be said at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Online condolences can be sent for her family thorough our website @www.gayandciha.com. Doris M. Gafeller Burger was born March 3, 1919, in Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Jacob and Emma (Iseli) Gafeller. She graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1937. On June 5, 1941 she married Raymond F. Burger in Iowa City. The couple were active members of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church where she was the music director and played organ for many years. She lived in Iowa City until moving to Crestview Care Center in West Branch and later to the Lutheran Home in Muscatine. Her family includes fives nieces and nephews, Lesta Jean Berry and her husband, William of Clearwater, FL; Linda Johnson and her husband, Raymond of Muscatine, John Gafeller of West Liberty, Marilyn Phelps and her husband, Stanley of West Liberty, and Dan Gafeller and his wife, Penny of Springdale; many great nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Leo Burger and his wife, Loraine of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Lester Jacob Gafeller. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Doris’s family and her services.
