Obituary of Donald R. Robertson

Donald R. “Don” Robertson, 75 of 4299 480th Street SE, rural Iowa City, died suddenly at his home Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Thursday, May 11, 2006 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in Don’s memory to Johnson County 4-H or Visiting Nurses Association. Online condolences for Don’s family may be sent through our website @ www.gayandciha.com. Don was born November 22, 1930 in Johnson County, Iowa to Leo and Margaret (Driscoll) Robertson. He was a 1949 graduate of Cosgrove High School. Don married Margaret Ann Rogers on February 15, 1951 in Iowa City. Don loved his life as a farmer, moving on to the farm south of Iowa City in 1953. There he raised Tamworth hogs, purebred Angus cattle, sheep and especially purebred Simmental cattle in his later years. Don was also a school bus driver for Lone Tree school district, worked for the physical plant for Iowa City School district and was a bulk fuel driver. Don was also a 4-H leader. Don enjoyed dancing, playing cards, watching Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball. But he mostly enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and watching their activities, which included sports and their showing 4-H cattle and sheep. Don was a member of the Johnson County Cattlemen’s Association, the Johnson County Pork Producers, the American and Iowa Simmental Association, American Angus Association, Iowa City Eagles, a past member of the Moose, a past member of the Johnson County Sheep and Woolgrowers where he served as Secretary. Don’s family includes daughters, Nancy Wilcox of Tiffin, Kathy Grout and her husband, Ron of Payson, Arizona , Donna Ruth and her husband, Pat of Iowa City and Brenda Rotherham and her husband, Philip of Conargo, Australia; a son, Kenneth Robertson and his wife, Denise of Kremmling, Colorado; grandchildren, Cody Allen and wife, Kim, Travis Allen, Matt Robertson and wife, Mandy, Jared Robertson, Kyle Ruth, Katlyn Ruth and Dylan Rotherham; sisters, Evelyn Yeggy and her husband, Merritt of Riverside, Iowa, Doris Fisher and her husband, Keith of Keota, Iowa, and Marjorie Schnoebelen and her husband, Paul of Riverside, Iowa and a brother, Bob Robertson and his wife, Sharon of Riverside, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City is caring for Don’s family and his services.
