Obituary of Mary A. Miller

Mary A. Miller, age 84 of 283 Paddock Circle, Iowa City died Monday, June 19, 2006, at Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville after an extended illness. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 22, 2006, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon with the Reverend Wilkening officiating. Burial will be at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Amenity Hospice. Mary Adelaide Lewis was born September 26, 1921, in Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Malcolm and Adelaide (Hughes) Lewis. She was a 1939 graduate of University High School in Iowa City. On November 5, 1940, she married Laurance “Bud” Miller at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Webster City, Iowa. Together the couple farmed the family farm near Solon until 1999, at which time they reluctantly gave up farm life. In 1977 at the Iowa State Fair, Bud and Mary were recognized as owners of a “Century Farm”. Her family includes, daughter Jean Miller of Iowa City; grandson and her devoted caregiver, Bill Milder; sisters, Marguerite Lovetinsky and Charlotte Hunter both of Iowa City; brother-in-law, Earl Miller of Solon, and sister-in-law, Loretta Miller of Solon. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband of 64 years, “Bud”; six brothers and sisters. Mary’s family would like to acknowledge the support given by Amenity Hospice, Father Wilkening, and the many nurses and caregivers from the agencies and care facilities to Mary’s in dealing with her frail health.
