Obituary of Harold George Jehle

Harold G. Jehle, age 74 of 1301 Marcy Street, Iowa City, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in Harold’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the funeral home website @www.gayandciha.com Harold George Jehle was born February 21, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Robert J. Jehle Sr. and Esther J. (Rushek) Jehle. Harold was united in marriage to Karen L. Verry in Iowa City on March 14, 1959.Following high school Harold enlisted in the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. After his military service he worked with his father at the Iowa City Flying Service and Jehle Small Engine Shop. For over twenty-eight years he worked at the Iowa Memorial Union as the lead maintence mechanic for the University of Iowa, until his retirement. Harold enjoyed antique collecting with his wife, working on old gas powered engines, and attending the Old Threshers Reunion. He also enjoyed spending time at their cabin on the river in Sutliff, but if you were to ask Harold his proudest moments in his life, were receiving his pilot’s license at the age of 16, and later after retirement receiving the honor bestowed upon him as “Honorary Wal-Mart Associate” for his dedicated daily visits to the Iowa City Wal-Mart. His family includes his wife, Karen; daughters, Melanie Stutzman and her husband, Bob of Wellman; and Debra Starbuck and Richard Foster of Oxford; four grandsons, Matthew Stutzman, Joseph Stutzman, Eric Starbuck, and Corey Starbuck; one great-granddaughter, Ellison Elizabeth Walsh; three brothers, Donald Jehle of Iowa City, Robert Jehle Jr. and his wife, Mary Jo of Cedar Rapids, and George Jehle of Redlands, CA; one niece and three nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Curry Starbuck. Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Harold’s family and his services.
