Larry Richard Bolton was born March 11, 1945, in Fontanelle, Iowa the son of William R. “Dick” Bolton and Norma I. (Smith) Bolton. He graduated from Mt. Ayr High School and had attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. On December 3, 1979, he married Cathy Marie Schultz in Iowa City and they enjoyed 27 memorable years together. For 34 years Larry has worked in management for Lear Corporation (formerly Sheller Globe and United Technologies) in Iowa City. Larry had many passions in his life. Having raised quarter horses for years he was involved with the Iowa State Quarter Horse Racing Association, having served as president and he was inducted into their Hall of Fame. The Iowa Hawkeye’s have lost one of their most faithful fans as Commander-in-Chief of the Lear Corporation tailgate. For the past five decades, Larry has played in many softball leagues and he was working on a sixth decade at the time of his death. If you ever came over to his house you were always made to feel like one of the family. He was a dad to so many. He loved to travel, ride his John Deere tractor, and attend auctions. But the great love in his life was his family, especially being Papa to his ten grandchildren. His family includes his wife, Cathy; children, Romy Bolton and her partner, Julie Moffitt, and their children, Nick, Allie, and Allison of Iowa City; Lance Bolton and his wife, Kate and their children, Jill, Lindsey and Avery of Iowa City; Angi Bevans and her husband, Brian and their children, Brianne, Alex and Andrew, and Kaylin of Tiffin; and Larry’s sister, Kathi Christensen and her husband, Ed of Greenfield, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James D. Bolton. Larry’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the care and love given to Larry by Dr. Brian Link, the nurses and staff of the Holden Clinical Cancer Center and especially to the nurses on 4JPE of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
