Obituary of Chester Miller
Chester A. Miller, age 79 of Iowa City died Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at a hospital in McAllen, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 11, 2007, at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend David Aanonson officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Saturday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7pm. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to The Iowa City Masonic Foundation or the Christ the King Lutheran Church Building Fund. Online condolences may be sent for his family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Chester Allen Miller was born March 16, 1927, in Iowa City the son of Glen and Ethel (Fountain) Miller. Following graduation from Iowa City City High School in 1945, Chet enlisted in the United States Navy serving during WWII. Chet returned to Iowa City after the war. In February of 1957 he married Evelyn Swope. Evelyn died in 1976, he later married Peggy Mortensen on April 2, 1977. For over forty years Chet worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City, member of Iowa City Masonic Lodge #4, Iowa City York Rite Bodies, Kaaba Shrine, Iowa City Shrine Club, Jesamine Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Bethlehem Shrine, White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Old Capitol Past Masters. If you knew Chet, you knew his love of the Iowa Hawkeyes and that he was a lifelong diehard Chicago Cubs fan. Chesters family includes his wife, Peggy; daughter, Anne Miller of Morrisville, NC; sister, Esther Timmons of Columbus City, Iowa, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Evelyn. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Chets family and his services.
