Obituary of Vearl F. Brumwell
Vearl F. Brumwell, 83, formerly of Solon died Thursday, February 1, 2007, at a Hospice Center in Dade City, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be held at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Vearls memory. Vearl Francis Brumwell was born November 24, 1923, in Garrison, ND, the son of Edward and Caroline (Gehring) Brumwell. Following graduation from Solon High School in 1941, he went on to attend the University of Iowa. After college Vearl enlisted in the Army during WWII. On October 7, 1961, he married Marilyn M. Jarrard in Iowa City. Marilyn died September 14, 1976. Vearl later married Lue Deanne Huffman on December 25, 1989, in Dade City, FL. For many years Vearl worked at the University of Iowa serving as a financial advisor for fraternities and sororities. Following retirement he moved to Dade City, Florida in 1989. Everyone that knew Vearl knew his love for roller-skating, listening to music. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion, V.F.W. and the N.R.A. His family includes two daughters and their husbands, Jannine and Mike Wright of West Branch; and Andrea and Tom Erhart of Solon; grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, and Brianna Wright, and Clint and Alayna Erhart; sisters, Imogean Adair and her husband, Marvin Bud of Central City, IA, and Dorothy Kidwell of Iowa City; brothers, Harlan Brumwell and his wife, Jeanne of Cedar Rapids, Vernon Brumwell and his wife, Linda of Texas, and Norman Doc Brumwell and his wife, Eleanor of Solon; step-children, Bob Huffman, Larry Huffman and his wife, Amalia, and Gary Huffman and his wife, Sandy all of Dade City, FL, and their children. Vearl was preceded in death by his parents, and both of his wives. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Vearls family and his services.
