Obituary of Lucile D. Clinite

Lucile D. “Skip” Clinite, 91 formerly of 513 6th. Avenue, Coralville died Friday, February 16, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at the Coralville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Lucile DeVe Skinner Clinite was born June 28, 1915, in Adel, Iowa the daughter of Alvin and Lorena (Mosier) Skinner. Following graduation from Adel High School in 1932, she attended and graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1935. While here she was a member of the girl’s basketball team which participated in the National Tournaments in Wichita, KS in both 1934 and again in 1935. This was the first girl’s team to represent the State of Iowa in a national tournament. After school she started her career as a secretary for the Commercial Credit Company in Des Moines in 1935. Prior to and during WWII she worked as an Executive Secretary for the Circulation Department of the Des Register and Tribune Newspaper from 1937 to 1946. During this time she was united in marriage to Richard A. Clinite on April 22, 1939 in Adel. They moved to Iowa City in 1947. In 1954, she became employed as Secretary to Dr. Dean Lierle, head of the Otolaryngology Department at the University Hospitals, and in 1960 as Business Administrator for Dr. C.M. Kos at the Iowa Clinic of Otology in Iowa City, retiring in 1979. In 1955 she and her family moved to Coralville where they became one of the charter members of the Coralville United Methodist Church, which was formed in 1958. Her family includes two daughters, Michele Stutzman of North Liberty, and Marlys Bartling and her husband, Greg of Iowa City; one son, Richard Clinite Jr. of Coralville; six grandchildren, Steven Stutzman of Cedar Rapids, David Stutzman and his wife, Kara of Shelby Township, MI, Richard Clinite of Tallahassee, FL, Marlys Clinite of Atlanta, GA, Heidi Clinite of Macomb, GA, and Nicholas Clinite of Macomb, GA; two sisters, Genevieve Murphy of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and Barbara Maynes of Lemon Grove, CA; two sisters-in-law, Lois Skinner of Apple Valley, CA and Marlys Penn of Maitland, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Richard Clinite Sr., two sisters, Pauline and Charlotte, two brothers, Robert and Richard, and her son-in-law, Tom Stutzman.
