Obituary of Grace Thompson Biggs
Grace T. Biggs, 93 of 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City. Cremation services were provided by Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City. Burial will be with her husband at the Charles Lawn Cemetery in Reading, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made on Graces behalf to the Iowa City Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Grace E. Thompson Biggs was born July 9, 1913, in Malden, MA the daughter of Frank S. and Lelia A. (Hardy) Thompson. She graduated from high school in Malden. On April 16, 1933, she married Warren Biggs in Portland, Maine. The couple made their home in Belmont, MA for more than fifty years. Grace worked as a bookkeeper for several companies in the Boston vicinity throughout the years. In 1992 the couple moved to Iowa City to be near their daughter and her family. Warren died February 6, 2004. In Belmont, Grace was an active member of the All Saints Episcopal Church. She was involved in many community functions, most connected with her childrens activities as they grew up. Grace was an excellent seamstress and avid Boston Terrier enthusiast. Her family includes: a daughter and her husband, Lelia and Dr. Charles Helms of Iowa City; IA; a son and his wife, Selden and Annie Millar Biggs of McLean, VA; grandchildren, Wesley Helms and his wife, Connie of Toronto, Canada; Bethany Lewis and her husband, Ben of Iowa City, IA; and Timothy Helms of Iowa City, IA; and step-grandchildren, Sangitha and Kalpana Millar. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother, Wilbur Thompson, sister, Virginia Himmelwright, and granddaughter Emily Helms. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Graces family and her arrangements.
