Obituary of Ronald Lee Bogs

Ronald Lee Bogs, 67 of 1429 Laurel Street, Iowa City died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Jan Rippentrap officiating. Burial with Firefighter and Military Honors will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials donations can be made in Ron’s memory to any of the following, Iowa City Hospice, Iowa City Fire Department or Mercy Hospital Foundation. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @gayandciha.com. Ronald Lee Bogs was born June 14, 1939, in Iowa City, the son of Robert and Dorothy. Growing up here he attended Henry Sabin Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and University High School. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for over four years. On January 21, 1961, he married Judy Love of Panora, Iowa at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. As a lifetime resident of Iowa City except for his time away for military service, Ron has worked a number of occupations. Starting with the Warco and Dividend Bonded Gas Stations, a dispatcher and driver for Yellow Cab, driver for Iowa City Coach Company, member of the Auxiliary Police Department for the City of Coralville, an Iowa City Firefighter from 1967 to 1985 when he retired, he then worked for Mercy Hospital in security and also as a fire inspector until this retirement in 2004. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, VFW Post 3949, and the U.S.S. Yorktown Association. Ron was a man that enjoyed life, enjoyed the many friends he made throughout his life, but most important to him was his family. They include his wife, Judy; daughters, Julie Jensen of Iowa City and Sheila Kassera and her husband, Brian of Golden Colorado; sons, Thomas Bogs and his wife, Danielle of Iowa City and Rick Bogs of Thornton, Colorado; grandchildren, Zachary, Jessica and Alex Bogs, Cody, Mary, Joseph, and Jenny Jensen all of Iowa City, Dino Lynn, Charmine, Ronald Charles, and Kayla Bogs of Thornton, CO, and Nicholas and Emily Kassera of Golden, CO; one sister, Marcie Ann Carl and her husband, Marc of Defiance, IA; and long time family members who have been a part of Ron's family since they were born, Mark and Matt Akers. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Albert Green. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Ron’s family and his services.
