Obituary of Charles P. Christensen
Charles P. Christensen, 86 formerly of 2801 Highway 6 East, Iowa City, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 pm Saturday, May 5, 2007, at the Oakfield Cemetery near Brayton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to benefit our Veterans of Military Service. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Charless family and his local arrangements. Charles was born June 18, 1920, in Brayton, Iowa the son of C.T. Christensen and Edith (Nelson) Christensen. During WWII Charles served in the United States Army. While serving, he was held prisoner of war for 26 months. On June 18, 1945 he married Cathryn Katie Curry at Oak Hill, IA. In 1965 the couple moved to Amana, Iowa where he was employed at Colony Inn for over twenty years before his retirement in 1988. They moved to Iowa City that year. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Brayton, member of the VFW, and an Ex POW- DAV. His family includes his daughter, Sharon Burlingame and her husband, Charles of Coralville; son, John Christensen and his wife, Kathy of Iowa City; Grandchildren, Jennifer Fredericks and her husband, Steve; Stacey Davies and her husband, Tom; Shawn Burlingame and his wife, Tiffany; great-granddaughters, Ryleigh and Harper Fredericks; brother-in-law, John Curry and his wife, Fern of Exira, IA, and sister-in-laws, Doris Christensen of Minneapolis, MN and Harriet Kirk of Newell, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Katie, and brother, Robert.
