Obituary of Maureen Hallas

Maureen Ann Hallas, 58, of 1923 E. Court Street, Iowa City, IA died Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at her home following her battle with ALS. At her request, her human remains have been gifted to the University of Missouri at Columbia for medical research. Maureen has asked if you wish to give a memorial donation please do so towards Iowa City Hospice or the Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross, in Quincy, IL. Maureen Ann Zoeller was born January 22, 1949, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Richard and Frances (Barrett) Zoeller. Following graduation from high school, she received her degree in pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh. For 30 years she worked as a pharmacist, living in Quincy before moving to Canton, MO, and later to Iowa City in February 2007 to be near family. Maureen was an avid gardener, artist, swimmer, traveler, and humanitarian. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Amnesty International, and Planned Parenthood. She is survived by her three children, Sarah Hallas of Madison, WI, Casey Hallas of Brooklyn, NY, and Rachel Hallas of Iowa City; five younger sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friends; and loyal customers. An open house is planned in Iowa City at 1923 E. Court St. on Saturday, September 29, 2007 from 3-5pm. A memorial service is planned in Quincy at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 1479 Hampshire St. on Saturday October 6, 2007 at 12pm. Immediately following, join Maureen’s family and friends for a gathering in Canton, MO.
