Obituary of Richard Hanson
Richard W. Dick Hanson, 60 of Swisher died Thursday, February 28, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family and dogs. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Monday, March 3, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 3pm Monday at Anderson Cemetery in Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in Dicks memory to Mercy Hospice of Cedar Rapids. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Richard William Hanson was born December 1, 1947, in Estherville, Iowa the son of Carl William and Melvina P. (Behrends) Hanson. He graduated Lincoln Central High School in Gruver, Iowa and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from service he got a job at Moore Business Forms in Iowa City where he worked until his retirement in 2006. Dick was a member of the Eagles Lodge, and High Point Golf Course both in Iowa City. He enjoyed life, the outdoors; fishing, camping, gardening and playing golf. Dick was an avid participant in area demolition derbies. He has been on a number of area bowling leagues through the years, and cherish the many poker games he and his brothers and nephews played over the years. His family includes his wife, Rhonda; mother, Melvina Hanson of Coralville; son, Richard Rick (Diana) Hanson of Johnston, IA; daughters Kelly (John) Laschansky of West Branch and Jody (Frankie) Gaut of Owensville, MO; six grandchildren, Emily, Danielle, Mitchell, Andy, Allison and Hailey; brothers and sisters, Roger (Karma) Hanson of Washington, Rodney (Ileen) Hanson of Atalissa, Donna (John) Erickson of Minneapolis, Russell (Connie) Hanson of Iowa City, Randy (Donna) Hanson of Cedar Rapids, Raymond (Debbie) Hanson of Hills, Darla Blair of Tipton; numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his father. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Dicks family and his services.
