Obituary of Eleonora M. Kinkaid

Eleonora M. Kinkaid, 91, formerly of Lone Tree, passed on to be with our Lord, in her sleep Thursday, March 20, 2008, at her home in Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with the Order of Eastern Star Memorial Service being held at 7:00 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the United Presbyterian Church, in Lone Tree with the Reverend Jason Pittman officiating. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. The family invites everyone to a luncheon in the fellowship hall at the church immediately following burial. Memorial donations may be made in Eleonora’s memory to Parkinson’s Research Foundation. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Eleonora Magdalene Kinkaid was born June 8, 1916, in Oakdale, Illinois the daughter of Fred and Eleanor (Kinzel) Seering. In 1936 she married Arthur Hora in Wellman, Iowa. They moved to Lone Tree where they raised three daughters; Yvonne, Barbara and Patricia. Arthur passed away in 1958. Eleonora married Ellsworth “Al” Kinkaid on January 28, 1960, and became a stepmother to his seven children. She was a homemaker and housewife and held various jobs outside the home as well. She was a member of The Order Of The Eastern Star, and the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree, various card clubs and was a volunteer for The Women’s Relief Corp. Al passed away December 11, 1982, after twenty-two years together. Eleonora moved to Kalona for seven years before moving to Abilene, Texas to live with her daughter Yvonne and son-in-law, Duane. In Abilene she was very active at the Rose Park Senior Center. She loved playing Skip-Bo and Bunco. Among her friends at the center she was known as “The Bunco Queen.” Eleonora’s surviving family includes two daughters, Yvonne (Duane) Collision of Abilene, TX, Patricia Christner of Independence, MO; one sister, Kathryn (Robert) Leonard of Tiffin, IA; son-in-law, Larry Gorvin of Oxford, IA; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; four stepdaughters; one stepson and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Arthur and Ellsworth; sisters, Ethel, Amanda, Edna, Martha, Bertha and Naomi; two brothers, Charles and Elmer; daughter, Barbara Gorvin; son-in-law Al Christner; one infant great-granddaughter; and one infant great-grandson. Eleonora was a wonderful presence in the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her. Pallbearers will be Rick Goody, Tim Goody, Jerry Gorvin, Dale Collison, Roy Collison and Alan Collison. Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Collison and Fred Goody. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Eleonora’s family and her services.
