Obituary of Wayne W. Waters
Wayne W. Waters, 83 formerly of Iowa City, died at the Hadlow Hospice Center in Jacksonville, FL, Wednesday June 25, 2008. Mr. Waters was born April 21, 1925, in Iowa City the son of Wilbur and Emma (Rummels) Waters. He attended school in Iowa City, and graduated from high school in Manson, Iowa, returned to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa. During World War II he was a pilot in the United States Army/Air Corps. Returning to Iowa City following the war he worked as a farmer for a short time, had a long career with Maher Brothers, and retired from H&W Motor Freight as their terminal manager. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Melba moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1987 to be near their daughter and family. While in Iowa City, Wayne was a member of the American Legion, First United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge. His family includes his wife, Melba (Schlichting) Waters; daughter, Pamela Langfitt and her husband, Murry, and their son, Eric all of Jacksonville; brother, Everett Waters of Peabody, MA. and his sister, Irene Bowers of Iowa City. At Waynes request, no services will be held, burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made in Waynes memory to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida @ 4114 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
