Obituary of Lucy Depos Pantazis

Lucy Pantazis, 93, formerly of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Iowa City Mercy Hospital under the skilled and compassionate care of Hospice. Lucy Depos was born May 27, 1921, in Karasovo, Greece, the daughter of James S. and Georgia (Xathelis) Depos. Her family moved to the United States residing in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from high school in 1939. On November 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to John Nicholas Pantazis. The couple raised their family in Hazleton where she worked for the family business, the Blue Comet Diner. She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, and the Daughters of Penelope. Her family includes her son Nicholas John Pantazis (Cathy Deschenes); grandchildren Katherine (Karl) Schroeder, John Nicholas (Helen) Pantazis, Thespina Manolas, Dimitrios Manolas and Loukia (Dave) Morey; great-grandchildren Mason and Georgia Schroeder, Vera, Faye, and Holly Pantazis; Lucy's sister Bessie (John) Apostolopoulos; sister-in-law Emerita Depos; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband John, daughter Frances Manolas, son-in-law George Manolas and brothers Steve, Gus and John Depos. Lucy's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all at Bickford Cottage, Solon Skilled Care, Mercy Hospital and Iowa City Hospice for their loving care of Lucy and her family. Funeral services will be held in Hazleton, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Lucy's memory to Iowa City Hospice @ 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240.
