Obituary of Rebecca L. Evans

Rebecca L. Evans, 54, of 1425 Ash St. Iowa City died on Sunday, July 20, 2008 following a hard fought battle with Stomach Cancer. In Becky's joyful style, there will be a Life Celebration Party held September 13th from 3-7:30pm located at the Oxford Legion. Please join us for music, dancing, food, photos, and story sharing to honor Becky's life. There will also be an extended celebration held afterwards at Tracy and Lorie Evans' 4620 Blawk Hawk Ave SW, Parnell, IA 52325. Bring your instruments! Jam sessions are encouraged and camping is welcome! True to Mom's nature, let's laugh loud, dance long, and love passionately to help us through this time of sadness. Evans was born November 24, 1953, in Iowa City the daughter of Dean and Alice (Bentley) Evans. Growing up in Windham, she attended schools in Cosgrove and Clear Creek Districts. She worked in many trades including belonging to the Carpenter's Union, mechanic, and semi truck driver. She was employed by Blooming Prairie Natural Foods here in Iowa City for 17 years and most recently had been employed at Williamsburg Man.. She had lived in Williamsburg for nearly twenty-five years before moving to Iowa City in February of this year. Rebecca believed in a simple, natural way of life, including a great love of the outdoors and animals. Her family includes her daughter, Anna Evans of Iowa City; step-children, Rinthea and Peter Satterlee of Williamsburg and Athena Satterlee of Marengo and Jeremy Satterlee of Kansas; friend, Jim Plaugher of Iowa City; brothers, Doug and Mary Evans of Iowa City, Chad Evans of Parnell, Tracy and Lorie Evans of Oxford, Blaine Evans of Parnell, and Bart and Carin Evans of Windham; sister, Candy and Gene Hawkins of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Marc and Neal Evans. In Becky's words, "I ask you not to grieve too long. I am still with you in your heart and souls. Be calm."
