Obituary of Opal H. Olson
Opal H. Olson, 88 of Iowa City died Monday, September 29, 2008, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial donations can be made in Opals memory to Zion Lutheran Church. Opal Harriett Olson was born March 15, 1920, in Clayton County, Iowa the daughter of Elmer and Amelia (Thorson) Larson. She graduated from Postville High School in 1938, received teachers training and taught in rural schools prior to her marriage to Orvin N. Olson on April 5, 1947. Opal later worked at Mercy Hospital in the Payroll Department from 1965 through 1981. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Norse Club of Iowa City, and the American Legion Auxillary. . Her family includes her daughters, Karen (Charles) Hogeboom of Annadale, VA; JoAnn (James) Brinker of Dudley, MA; grandsons, Peter (Sarah) Hogeboom, Christopher Hogeboom, Nathan (Jamie) Brinker, Jonathan (Morgan) Brinker and Jesse Brinker; great-grandsons, Jameson and Cohen Brinker; sister, Marjorie Amondson of Postville, IA; brother, Oliver (Darlene) Larson all of Elgin, IA; sister-in-law, Marilyn Larson of Elgin, IA. She was preceded in death by her, parents, husband, and brother, LaVerne Larson. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Opals family and her services.
