Obituary of Daniel Ruby

Daniel A. “Dan” Ruby, 58 of 2301 Friendship Street, Iowa City died at his home Thursday, October 23, 2008. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend David Aanonson officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dan’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Daniel Allen Ruby was born April 30, 1950, in Fairfield, IA the son of John W. and Flora “Irene” (Puffinbarger) Ruby. He attended schools in Mt. Pleasant, IA and Pomona, CA. During the Vietnam War, Dan served in the United States Army as a medic. After serving in the military, he moved to Iowa City where he attended the University of Iowa. On October 13, 1984, he married Gloria F. Bloomberg in Iowa City. Dan worked as an auto mechanic in this area, and later owned and operated a number of computer support centers here. Before retiring, he worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dan enjoyed doing remodeling projects, and going to antique car shows. His family includes his wife, Gloria; sons, Joshua Ruby and his wife, Bonnie of Coralville, and Jeff Bloomberg of Iowa City; his father, John Ruby of Coralville; brothers, Doug Ruby of Oxford, and David Ruby and his wife, Laurie of Silvis, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Irene. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Dan’s family and his services.
