Obituary of Carroll R. Lust

Carroll R. Lust, 81, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Mercy Hospital under the compassionate care of Hospice with family by his side. Carroll Roger Lust was born November 18, 1933, in rural Jasper County, Iowa the son of Leland Carroll and Ruth Bain (Wheeler) Lust. He attended schools in Newton, graduating from Newton High School in 1952. He then enrolled at the University of Iowa where he was attending until he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Returning from service he continued his education at the University of Iowa graduating in 1959, with his BS degree in Marketing. Carroll married Beverly Jo Witmer on January 4, 1957, in Newton. Carroll was employed by Osco Drug, managing their Mankato, MN store from 1966-1973 when he opened his own store, Star Drug. The couple and their family moved to Iowa City in 1976 when Carroll merged the Star Drug chain with, and assumed control of, Drug Fair, Inc. Carroll was member of the Elks Club. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and curling, and has been a longtime supporter of Iowa Hawkeyes Athletics. He and Bev have enjoyed spending the winter months for the past 21 years in Sun Lakes, AZ, with their many snow bird friends. His family includes his wife, Bev; their two daughters, Sara McMurray of Evanston, IL, and Sandi Lust of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Teressa, Gillian and Ian McMurray; his two brothers, D. Dean Lust (Petesy) of Chickaloon, AK; and Gary Lust (Sharon) of Iowa City. A time celebrating Carroll's life true to his passions will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the Elks Club in Iowa City, with lunch being served. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Carroll's memory to the charity of your choice.
