Obituary of Raymond E. Cambridge
Raymond E. Cambridge, 83, of North Liberty, passed away at home, Saturday, February 7, 2015 with his family at his side.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, February 13th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with visitation Thursday from 4-7 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Memorials can be directed to the Ray Cambridge Memorial Fund.
Raymond Earnest Cambridge was born October 1, 1931 in Newport Township; son of Eugene and Helen (Stebral) Cambridge. He attended country school in Newport Township and following that served several years in the Iowa National Guard. He worked almost 40 years with Ruan Transportation in their Coralville shop. Ray married Florence Tolander on May 22, 1954 and to their union, had three children; Carl, Tina and Jim. Ray married his wife, Kay (Conner) June 18, 1977 in Coralville.
Ray was an avid outdoorsman; mushroom hunting, fishing and enjoying their garden. For the last 15 years, he had required the assistance of a wheelchair, a limitation he did not let distract him from his passions. He still enjoyed time around the yard, his flowers and their garden.
His family includes his wife, Kay; children Carl Cambridge (Judy) of Hills, Tina Swartzendruber (Darwin) of Kalona, Jim Cambridge (Linda) of Muscatine and Carrie Coburn (Tom) of Hills; grandchildren, Nicole and Shawn Cambridge, Aaron Swartzenbruber (Amanda), Hannah Meyers (Jeremy), Kayla Tadlock (Colin), Molly Bauwens (Josh), Joshua Cambridge (Carolyn) and Jacob Cambridge and six great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Edward.
Ray's family would like to acknowledge the love, assistance and care shared with them by their neighbors, friends and the nursing staff of 6RCE and Palliative Care at the University of Iowa Hospital.
