Obituary of James P. Brugman

James P. Brugman, 47 of West Liberty, died Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Lantern Park Nursing Facility in Coralville. Memorial services are being arranged for a later date. Private burial will be at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in rural Nichols. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Jim was born May 2, 1962, in Iowa City, the son of Stephen and Margery (Randall) Brugman. He graduated second in his class from West Liberty High School. He was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Nichols. In his younger years, he enjoyed living on the family farm in Muscatine County. He lovingly devoted 10 years of his adult life to his mother’s care in Muscatine. While in Muscatine, he served several Christmas seasons as the mall Santa Claus. After his mother’s death in 1997, he returned to the farm, but due to an extended illness, he shortly moved to the nursing facility where he lived out the remainder of his life. His family includes his two sisters, Margaret Davis (Gary) of Kansas City, MO; and Beth Replogle (Chuck) of Belton, MO; one brother, Tom (Nancy) of West Liberty; and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jim’s family and his services.
