Obituary of Dorothy R. Mossman
Dorothy R. Mossman, 99, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at the Oaknoll Retirement Residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 1 pm Saturday until services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Dorothy's memory to Iowa City Hospice or the Oaknoll Foundation. Dorothy Resch was born September 1, 1915, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Clifton and Emma Ruth (Allen) Resch. Following graduation from high school, she attended and graduated from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Ray B. Mossman Jr. on August 17, 1940, in Independence, Missouri. The couple made their home in Iowa City after their marriage where she took great pride in making a wonderful home for her family. She was an excellent cook and seamstress who as her daughter, Elaine recalls, made all of her clothes as she was growing up. For a time she also worked keeping books for Domby Boots and Bob & Henry's Service Station. Dorothy enjoyed the game of bridge, all sorts of music, and so dearly loved traveling the world with her husband, Ray!
Her family includes her two children, Elaine Guha of Pittsburgh, PA; and Allen Mossman (Mary) of Wheaton, IL; grandchildren, Mona Leigh Guha (Joe King), Girin Guha, Amy Mossman, David Foster and James Foster; great-granddaughters, Willow Jaye King and Lily Jackson-Foster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray; sisters, Juanita Roedel and Helen Louise Stockton and her brother, Clifton Resch.
