Alvin L. Westlake was born June 15, 1928, in Letts, Iowa, the son of Earl Alvin Westlake and Delta (Mink) Westlake. During the Korean Conflict, Tiny served in the United States Army. In 1955 he married the love of his life, Martha Hungerford in Keswick, Iowa. The couple made their home in Lone Tree. Tiny worked for over years for Protein Blenders in Iowa City as their mill supervisor.
Tiny loved life; he and Martha loved to travel and camp with a special group of friends. In their retirement they began going to Florida for the winters. There they made long-lasting friendships and enjoyed being able to be outdoors year round. Tiny has always loved the outdoors, where he was an avid (pretty good)fisherman and turtle trapper. He was especially good at cooking them too!
When Martha was battling her cancer, Tiny stepped up and took over the housework: cooking, cleaning and doing laundry. He assisted her so she could continue to go places and do things she enjoyed. The love evident between them during this time was clear and strong. When Martha died, a very special part of Tiny died with her.
His family includes his daughter, Renee' Lunemann of Solon; grandson, Ryan Lunemann of Solon; granddaughter and her husband, Caty and Logan Frederick of Marshalltown; 2 great-grandsons, Archer and Ryker Frederick; sisters, Thelma Frauenholz and her husband, Don of West Branch, Juanita Forbes of Iowa City, and Mary Keever of Columbus Junction; brother, James Westlake and his wife, Nancy of Lone Tree; sister-in-law, Ruth Anne Hungerford of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews.
