Obituary of Stephen Eugene Buckman
Stephen E. Buckman, 64 of Iowa City died Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2010, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Private graveside services will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Steve’s memory to Gideon’s International. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Stephen Eugene Buckman was born April 28, 1946, in Chicago, IL, the son of Lester and Eleanor M. (Wilson) Buckman. Following graduation from high school in Fairmount, IN, he attended and later graduated from Ball State University. He was united in marriage to Jane E. Wilson on March 16, 1968, in Bucyrus, OH. The couple and their family moved to Iowa City where Steve was associated with HLM (Hansen, Lind & Meyer) for a number of years. He left HLM for an architectural position with the University of Iowa. A position that he has held for many years, currently as a senior architect. Steve has been associated with many projects while with the University, most recently completed the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center was one of great pride to Steve and his associates.
Steve married Janice A. Adams on June 14, 2008, in Iowa City. He was a member of River Community Church in Iowa City, former board member of the Iowa City Board of Appeals, member of Association of University Architects, AIA, and the Classic Car Club of Eastern Iowa. His 1963 Chevy Nova was a project of love, for the kid that never left him. He enjoyed cross-country trips with family and friends, and later in life the sport of sky-diving! Steve was a generous and patient man, a man that believed in family, a man of strong faith and conviction; who felt that he was given this life to serve his Lord.
Steve’s family includes his wife, Jan; sons and their families, Chris Buckman and Jennifer Farmer, and their children, Robert, Keydrin, Makayla, Caleb, Cameron and Elizabeth; Jon Buckman and Misty, and their children, Caitlyn and Stephen; daughters, Stephanie Gabel and her daughter, Veronica; and Su Pu; his mother, Eleanor Buckman; his sister, Mary Buckman and niece, Casey Rider (Jason).
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Buckman and wife, Jane.
