My thoughts and prayers go to Doyle's family. I have such fond memories of working with Doyle at the Waterfront Hy-Vee when I was in high school and college. My memories are always of him smiling and trying to cheer me up if I was down. He had excellent work ethic and his smile and positive attitude always reminded me to keep my chin up and be happy for each day we have on this earth! Thanks for having such a postiive impact on my life and the many others you touched as well. You definately did have, "A Smile in Every Aisle." Fondly, Amy
Rich and family-

Doyle was one of the first people i remember seeing when my mom use to take me grocery shopping. Then when i graduated high school and entered college i started working at the waterfront hy-vee and he taught me how to properly bag the groceries. I have many fond memories of him during those years. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Uncle Doyle, how do they say gone but not forgotten? You will always be present in my famlies thoughts. I have seen you on more occasions than you know and always was proud to say, that is my Uncle. Whether you were headed eastbound or westbound on I-80, or in a local Hy-Vee parking lot in the Quad Cities you always smiled at me. Hy-Vee picked a good one to place on their trailers! You will be missed.
Your family will be in our prayers. Doyle was my boss at Hy-Vee in the 70s and he tought me a work ethic that I still have today. What a great boss and friend!
I have many wonderful memories of visiting with Doyle in the 'checkout' at Hy-Vee growing up! He always had a great story to tell us about our Dad (Chuck Jr.) getting into trouble as a kid when the families lived across the street from each other in Coralville. My condolences to the Harris family on the loss of a wonderful man!
I'm so sorry for your loss. Just wanted you to know my thoughts & prayers are with you & to extend to you my deepest sympathy.
I worked at the Kirkwood HyVee while in college and enjoyed Doyle very much. He was a true gentleman and had that smile always. He was a delight to know and work for.
One of the nicest men I have every known.
Seems like I have known Doyle all my life just from Hy-vee. I know there were times when I would go in to the store and be in a kind of a bad mood from whatever happened that day. But if I could go thru Doyle's check-out line or just see him in the isle I knew I would get one of his great big grins and "How ya doing kido", then my day was much better. He will be missed and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. A saddened customer of "Doyle's"
We met Doyle and Margaret when they were visiting Gene and Darlene in Monahans on their way to Arizona. We got to listen and laugh about the many stories and the tricks they pulled on Brownie. We really enjoyed the warmth and the laughter. Please accept our sincere condolances for your loss.
I think they threw away the mold after making Doyle. He was such a genuinely kind soul. He always had time to talk to you as you as he was checking you out at Hy-Vee. I would always wait in his line, no matter how long it was or who else was open. He was a a very special person and will be missed. Hold your memories close and they will help you get by this terrible loss.
I saw Doyle every time I put product in that store and he always had that friendly smile.
I met him at Hy-Vee many, many years ago when he was a cashier. He always had a smile on his face and a pleasant way about him that made my day. He had a nickname for me, "Lucky" which I will cherish for many years.
Yes, Doyle was "the helpful smile in every aisle" from the days of Hy Vee on the corner of Gilbert St and Kirkwood Ave..when i was a little girl, we would go in there and i would push my little cart around the store. Doyle always had a welcoming smile for us. As i grew and saw him at the Waterfront Hy Vee, that ornery smile and twinkle in his eye greeted us. He would always ask how life was, how farming was. Thank you Doyle for your continued service to the public, for always making us feel welcome to your day.
Rest In Peace.
Linda (Sexton) Fobian and family
So sorry to hear about Doyle. What a genuinely nice man he was. I remember the Thursday night at the bowling alley with my parents and their teammates Margaret and Doyle. It was always nice to see him at Hy-Vee as well. He was for sure the most friendly smile in the aisle at Hy-Vee. Great man, great loss. My prayers and thoughts are with all the Harris during this difficult time. - Cheryl and John Hoard
One of my most favorite memories of Uncle Doyle are the stories about he and Uncle Gene and how they were always trying to ditch their little brother, Brownie, my dad. How ornery they were and what imanginations those two must have had. All my love and prayers, Aunt Margaret, SueEllen, Janene and Richard.
My heart goes out to the Harris Family. I will always cherish the memories of Doyles friendly pinches, the car rides home from practices, the New Years Day afternoons watching the Rose Bowl game at the Harris home. Doyle and the entire Harris family always made you feel like you were part of their family. Hugs to you all in this time of sorrow. I love you all.
