Obituary of Dolores Jean Franklin
Dolores Jean Franklin, 61, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, surrounded by her family.
Services celebrating Dolores's life will be held 12 noon, Monday, January 3, 2010 at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service, beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dolores Franklin Memorial Fund. Dolores Jean Longbey was born March 1, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois; daughter of Richard Longbey and Wannabell Jackson. She spent her childhood in Chicago and in 1967 while in Chicago, married Eddie Franklin. In 1991 Dolores and her family moved to Iowa, where they lived in Washington for a number of years until moving to Iowa City. Dolores was a happy person who put faith in her Lord, and appreciated all He gave her; including her children and grandchildren who she cherished. She was a member of The Living Water Kingdom Church under the Leadership of Pastor Cymaron Dawson. She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, whether at church or while playing bingo; she truly was a people person.
Dolores' family includes her daughters, Wanda (Philip) Daniel, Tonia Franklin, Edweana (Theodis) Howard; special daughter, Royceann Porter; grandchildren, Jaquanda, Eddie, Tonae, Dominique, and Malika; brothers, Richard (Minnie) Longbey and Ronald Longbey; sisters, Elizabeth (Chancellor) White, Dora Jones, Lillian Longbey, Claudine Timmons, Patricia (Frank) Juett ; sisters-in-law, Charlie Mae Long, Cynthia Long, Sandra Howard and Pamela Howard; brother-in-law, Stanley Franklin; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie; parents and brothers, Robert, Gerald and Patrick Longbey.
