Obituary of Alvera J. Goody

Alvera Goody, 81, of West Liberty, formerly of the Iowa City area, died Friday, January 7, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held 9 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2011, at the West Branch Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to Alvera’s family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Alvera J. Goody was born May 19, 1929, in Centerville, Iowa; daughter of Moss Wilson and Helen Ratliff. On September 22, 1979, she married Merle Goody in Reno, Nevada. Alvera was a long time resident of the Iowa City area and always considered this home. For many years she drove her own truck, as an over-the-road driver. She enjoyed time spent with her family; helping with 4-H projects, working in her flower gardens or preparing a meal and baking deserts, she enjoyed her time spent baking and cooking and was good at it. She also enjoyed making crafts, sewing and of course, playing Bingo whenever the chance arose. Her family includes her daughters, Cindy (Sexton) Holmes (Richard) and Rebecca Cornwell; Granddaughters; Jeannie Crull (Ryan), Sabrina and Amber Goody and Jennifer Sexton; grandsons, Shannon Leggett, Chad Sexton (Mindy) and Braxton Sexton and Thomas Goody; as well as numerous step-children and many step-grandchildren. Alvera was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, parents and her son, Greg Sexton. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is caring for Alvera’s family and her services.
