Obituary of Arthur Clarence Allen

Arthur C. Allen, 94 of Coralville died peacefully at his home, Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Arthur was born January 5, 1917, in Blencoe, Iowa the son of Hiram and Lena (Holten) Allen. At an early age he went to work to help support his family. During WWII he served with the Army Air Corps in England. He was united in marriage to Benita Heal in 1949, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The couple moved to rural Coralville in 1950, where Arthur worked on the Oakdale farm for a number of years. He then worked for the University of Iowa at the Quadrangle as a custodian for over 15 years retiring in 1973. He has always enjoyed gardening, photography, and fishing. His family includes a step-son, David Heal (Sharon) of Iowa City; step-daughter, Thea Ferguson (Jay) of Newton, KS; step-daughter-in-law, Sally Heal of McKinney, TX; brothers, Lloyd Allen of Kelso, WA; Bud Allen and Evert Allen both of Onawa, IA; sisters, Amy Pierce of Kelso, WA; and Jessie Allen of Turin, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Benita; step-son, Michael Heal, and ten brothers and sisters. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
