Condolences
Nancy and family,
I am so sorry to hear of this sudden and tragic loss. In the course of our work I've only spoken with Nancy on the phone yet she feels like family because of her warm and caring manner. It took my breath away to hear this news. I pray that God will comfort you and give you strength as you start the journey of grief and healing.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Nancy and Family. I know that you will always miss Jose but remember how he was always around the action and always ready to help in any way he could. He will continue to do that. Jose and I had many long conversations about God, Cuba and communism, his loving family, his special brother and his parents. I will always cherish the day he volunteered to come to my Victorian home and hang curtain rods for me. We laughed so much I thought we would fall off the ladder. He was warm, kind, empathetic, unfailing in his love of people and his determination to make life a better place. He succeeded. My love and thoughts are with you all.
Nancy, you are such a special person and my heart aches for you in this loss. Please accept my heartfelt and sincere condolences. I hope you will find peace and comfort in knowing that Jose is with Fernando and our Lord. I pray your faith, family and friends will continue to lift you, Michelle and Bryan up while you walk forward. I know Jose is watching over you all. You know how to reach me if you feel the need to talk
Jose and I worked together for years at what is now called Vangent (formerly NCS Pearson).
We were customer service representatives, and there was stress associated with this position. Sometimes, the job would get me down and he would sense this and tell me a funny story. The funniest thing he did was impressions. I would literally be crying and get a stitch in my side because he was so darn funny. I never got tired of these impressions or stories he liked to tell.
Nancy, he loved you very much. He used to tell me what he was planning on fixing for dinner so that when you got home from work, dinner would be ready for you.
I remember when the preparations were being made for Michele's wedding. He just glowed talking about you, Michele. And Bryan, Jose thought of you as if you had been his biological son. I remember Jose speaking of some work on your home he was assisting with. He was very proud of Bryan and Michele.
Michele, you were certainly the apple of his eye! It is hard to believe I won't see him in his cab driving around the Iowa City area any longer.
I wasn't surprised to read the glowing remarks from the folks from the Yellow Cab company where he last worked.
Nancy, please call me if you need anything. I will never forget the cold December day when I was locked out of car in the Walmart parking lot and you drove me home to get my spare key. You were such a blessing that day. So, let me know if ever you need something!
Love,
Pat Myers

I met Jose back when I started my first job with Perkins in Coralville. He
was a huge influence on me and helped me understand that the customer is alway right... except when they're wrong! Seriously, he knew how to make the job fun, but still get it done. I always looked forward to days when I knew he'd be the manager on duty.
Michelle and Family,

time you have whenever you are together. Our Thoughts & Prayers are

Hello Nancy,
Vicki called Thursday and told me what happened to Jose. I am so sorry to hear such shocking news! Please accept my sincere condolences. I know you have lots of support from yours and Jose's many relatives and good friends.
My memory of Jose is when we met at the Oasis one year when he came to the conference with you. We enjoyed ourselves immensely despite the reports of a murderous gunman loose in the area. A memorable evening in more ways than one!
Wishing you comfort in the countless wonderful memories during the weeks and months ahead. I will call you soon.
Nancy,
My parents are down in Florida visiting (Dale and Shirley Miller) and were so upset to hear the confirmation that it was indeed Jose in that horrible accident the night before they flew out. My dad really enjoyed working with Jose at the hospital years ago and my parents treasured the friendship with both of you.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Thinking of you and your family and wishing you much love at this time and always.
To all of Jose's family:
Nancy and family:
I was so sorry to read of Jose's passing. While I didn't actually know him, I knew how much you loved him through Nancy's stories and the way she lit up when speaking of him. May you find comfort in the many wonderful memories.
Nancy, Bryan and Michelle my heart and prayers go out to you at this time of sorrow. I worked with Jose for almost eight years at Pearson and my dad worked with him at the University of Iowa Laundry 25 years earlier. Jose made everyday an experience to remember. One of my favorite memories was when I fell and twisted my ankle. Jose was showing one of the managers where and how I fell and in demonstrating he almost injured himself. That day as with many other times showed how Jose was willing to put his whole self into everything he did.
Nancy, your husband's smile was beautiful! Please extend my condolences to your entire family.
Dear Nancy, Michelle and Bryan,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Jose was a wonderful man. I met him at pearson and we immediately hit it off and became very good friends, He was like an uncle to me. I was young and I had all kinds of stories about my friends and going out and life and he would always have a story about when he was that age, but that story always had some sort of advice in it too. I'm so glad to have known him and worked with him, he always made me smile when I was feeling down.
I remember when Michelle was getting married, he was the proudest dad you ever saw, he glowed whenever he talked about Nancy, Michelle or Bryan, I've never seen somebody love his family so much. You were all very blessed. Jose and Nancy even came to my wedding, it was wonderful.
Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Dear Nancy & Michelle,
Suzanne called to tell me of Jose's unexpected death. May the comfort of friends and family give you strength during this time. I will always remember Jose and Fernando as men who enjoyed life and loved their families. Now they are together again. Their life story is a tremendous journey of which we are honored to be a part. God bless them and you. Rich and I will be thinking of you and praying for you.
Nancy , Michelle and Brian
We have lost a dear friend close to all of us...and one of the best story and joke teller of all times! Many times my face hurt from smiling so much or we had a pain in our side from laughing so hard! Now we have to let that pain go so he will become our angel !
I will never forget the time he shielded me from the Kalona News Paper when they tried to take my picture with him and Ada at Halloween...yes a Cuban, a Nun, and an Amish woman all in a bar together. The paper thought I was really Amish....how we got ourselfs out of that one only a few drinks later what a great time!
God bless you Jose and may you wear you beer keg sunglasses and ragae hat in heaven, I'll wear my martini glasses with Jim and a smile on our faces remembering all the fun times together.
May you rest in peace.
Holly, Jim, Johnathan and Kara Poeschel

We have know Jose through church for many years, but I, Linda, got to know him so much better through RCIA a couple of years ago. What a blessing he was to our group and to the process. He will be missed by so many. Sincerely, Roger and Linda
My deepest sympathies for you and your family.
Nancy and family,
Pat and we were very saddened to hear of the loss of a great man, Jose. We will never forget that time during the early 1990's when we all went on that bus trip to the Mall of America sponsered by work. Jose, Pat and Jerry Carson, sitting in the back of the bus and providing hours of entertainment, that only they could do. We all laughed so hard. He was truely a unique man.
We'll miss his wit, comments and laughter and I know that you all meant the world to him. Please know that we are thinking of you in this time of sorrow.
Take care - Luann and Pat Forinash
Nancy, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet Jose the last few years at the TASA conference. It was obvious to all who met him that he loved you dearly, and that you felt the same. Please know that you are in my thoughts. If there is anything you need, don't hesitate to ask.
Like everyone that knew Jose, I will miss him very much. Jose made a habit of stopping into our office to visit Michelle and I am going to miss those visits. He brought comic relief with him every time he stopped in. Always smiling, laughing, telling stories, and bringing a little sunshine into our office with every visit.
Most recently we have enjoyed listening to his 'tales of the cab' as he always seemed to have a good story for us involving one of his passengers. I think he enjoyed his work and chatting with all the folks he gave rides to. I would joke with him that it is lucky for his passengers that they pay by the mile or time rather than by the words that come out of his mouth.
We have lost a great man and can only guess as to why God needed him now. My guess is that it must be way too quiet in Heaven and the Good Lord needs some comic relief. We'll miss him but we always have the memories.
Michelle & Nancy, please find strength in your faith and know that your friends are here for you.
Don Born

Dear Nancy,
Your Austin Pearson family is sending you love and light as you go through this difficult time. I met Jose when he accompanied you to the conferences here in Texas. It was obvious to see at even those brief meetings that he adored you and was so proud of you. I'm so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Kaye Draper
Friends and Family,
Jose was a great symbol of his faith. He spoke openly and kindly to all about the works of Christ. He was a great inspiration to all he came in contact. He told me many times of his work in the cab after he lost his other job. He did not complain, instead he gave us a memory of love and forgiveness. Let his memory live on in his family and friends. I give a toast to a man who loved God.
Nancy, Michelle and Brian- Chris and I are so very sorry for your loss. You have always been a very loving and welcoming family and have become an important part of our family. Your smiles can light up a room and I will always remember Jose with a great, big smile on his face. You have opened your hearts up to so many people over the years and because of that you will have an enormous amount of love and support during this painful time. We love you and hope you don't lose those beautiful smiles. Love, Brenda and Chris.
