Jennifer and Family,

Jennifer and Family: Mrs. Ringo was my favorite teacher ever. She was five feet packed with excitement and passion. We'd be conjugating verbs and she'd suddenly veer into Lasansky art or similarities between Portugese, French and the Spanish language. My brother Tom told me she used to prowl the hallways at the end of school urging her students to take home their Spanish books. Thousands of students' pens packed her purse because when she signed your absence slip, you didn't get your pen back. She used to make me go get her purse that she'd left behind in the Phoenics Lab and I'd have to walk the halls with "la Senor's" purse, trying to look cool, carrying it like a football. She's one of a kind, one of the best. I'll never forget her.

Jennifer: So sad to read about your Mother's passing. While we had a "fiery" relationship when I was her student at West I came to really enjoy seeing her when my parents we at Oaknoll. I would visit with her often and though I am not sure how much she was aware of in those years I did see that old glint in her eye and could definitely tell she enjoyed the company. I have many memories but those last years were the best. Just wanted you to know I was thinking about you - no matter what the circumstances it is a tough thing to lose your mother. Barbara

Jennifer, my sympathies to you and your family. Your mother was the one teacher I will always remember. At any moment she would break into one of her flamingo dances or relate to us a story of growing up in Cuba. She touched many lives and I often refer to her when working with my students. Mrs. Ringo was my teacher at West High in Iowa City. I remember her fondly. She encouraged me and coaxed me until my spanish skills increased. She pushed me to pursue my dream to study in Spain and return to iowa to teach English to Spanish speaking students. This was long before such a program existed in schools. While I did not fulfill my dream, my memories of her remain. What a wonderful lady!
