Obituary of June Lenore Graves

June L. Graves, 91 of Iowa City died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will be at the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. June Lenore Laing was born June 28, 1919, in Oklahoma City, OK the daughter of Roy and Ada (Morthland) Laing. Her family moved to Amarillo, Texas where she graduated from Amarillo High school and Amarillo College there. She was united in marriage to Joseph Curtis Graves in 1943, he died a short time later on June 8, 1944. For many years she worked as school secretary, for the school district in Amarillo at Horace Mann Jr High. She had lived in Amarillo for many years before moving to Iowa City, Iowa in 2007 to be nearer to her daughter and family. Her family includes her daughter, Trudy Lemburg and her husband, Robert of Iowa City; two grandsons, Laurence Curtis Ward, wife Christina and Jeffrey Graves Ward, wife Andrea; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Greyson Ward. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Forest and Roy Marvin Laing.
