Obituary of Robert 'Rob" F. Mayers

Robert F. “Rob” Mayers Jr. 49 of Davenport died at his home Friday, July 22, 2011, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the Cunnick-Collins Funeral Home in Davenport, where visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday. Robert Frederick Mayers Jr. was born April 18, 1962, in Davenport the son of Robert F. Mayers Sr. and Madonna (McCarthy) Mayers. He graduated from Assumption High School and Mary Crest College. Rob was united in marriage to Christine M. Stroud on August 1, 1987 in Iowa City. He has lived a lifetime in Davenport, where he worked with the labor union, and Continental Cement. Rob loved his life, he not only supported his children in all that they were involved with and their dreams, but also many other young people who he could encourage and teach. For years he has coached baseball, for youth of all ages. Rob appreciated his union Labor Local #309, liked bowling and being involved in the bowling association, and was an avid sports fanatic, especially anything to do with the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals! But most dear to him was his family. His family includes his wife, Christine; children, Emily M. Mayers (Aaron McGinnis-Lard) and Ryan R. Mayers both of Davenport; and a sister, Brenda Mayers also of Davenport; and many other family and friends. Rob was preceded in death by his parents.
