Shirley and George thoroughly enjoyed watching our three boys growing up, and never passed up an opportunity to share that joy with us. Whether it was calling to say how much Shirley enjoyed watching the boys play football in the yard, or how cute Lance was dressed up as a hobo for Halloween, to the little conspiracy between George and our son Mike when he took his dad's Corvette out for a little drive and ran out of gas before he could get the car back into the garage - and George came to the rescue (Mike was grown and gone before we heard that story). When my mother moved to Iowa City at the age of 80, Shirley and she became good friends over the last 13 years. She was a great friend, a great neighbor, and she will be sorely missed by our family.
