Obituary of Robert Kanak
Robert F. “Bob” Kanak, 91, of Iowa City, IA and Mission, TX died peacefully in his sleep Thursday, August 18, 2011 in Grove, OK.
Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 Saturday, prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Iowa City or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent through the web @www.gayandciha.com.
Robert was born June 30, 1920; son of Joseph and Jennie Marsh Kanak. He graduated from Iowa City High in 1939. He served in the Army medical corps in Europe during World War Two. Bob married Vieva Adams in 1945. A lifelong resident of Iowa City, IA he retired after 28 years with the US Postal Service.
Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans & the National Assoc. of Federal Employees. He was a past Secretary of the Moose Lodge, past President & board member of the Federal Employees Credit Union, past Chairman of the Easter Seals organization and assisted in reorganizing the Northern Star Reunion.
Bob's family includes his son, Robert (Linda) Kanak of Grand Lake, OK; three grandsons; Shaun (Lisa) of Fredericksburg, VA; Jason ( Jennifer) of Lowell, AR; Weston of Turks & Caicos Islands, eight great-grandchildren & sister, Alice of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vieva; son, Thomas; four sisters and two brothers. He was married to Delila Swartz Kanak.
