Lawrence "Larry" Calkins
1923 - 2015
Condolences
I am sorry to hear of this recent death. I knew Craig and Pamela.
I think I went to school with Craig. My condolences to the family.
I am so grateful to have had the best grandpa. I had the best childhood because i spent so much time with my grandparents. Grandpa retired before grandma so when I was in elementary school, he would pick me up after school everyday. I can remember playing chinese checkers or regular checkers alot. He let me win in the beginning and as time went on I remember telling him he could stop letting me win and he laughed and said I stopped letting you win along time ago can you let me win?
He took me fishing and rock hunting. We would go metal detecting at various places and he always let me keep the money we found. He made me a "soap box derby" car and a playhouse and a personal chinese checkerboard. He was always so crafty with his hands.
I will always remember his laugh. He could talk to anyone and he was always joking and trying to get a laugh out of everyone. Im going to miss my grandpa so much but I am comforted that he is with grandma and gail again and I know they are having a wonderful time in heaven and looking down on me and my family and watching over us. I love you grandpa thank you for being the best grandpa to me always.

Craig sorry for your loss. You will all be in my prayers. Keep all the good memories in your hearts forever. God Bless you all.
I have so many fond memories of the Calkins family.....hearing about Larry catching Craig and Steve smoking in Tip's doghouse .......camping at the reservoir......sharing a summer week in Northern Minnesota....and on, and on.
I have the "Buettner" sign carved in the shape of a fish that you made for my mom & dad and it makes me think of you each time I pass by it. Thank you for your constant smile and for being such a great neighbor. With warm regards, Anne
Amanda, Craig, and families -
I am so sorry to see this - please accept my sincere condolences! Amanda, I remember riding in the "putt-putt", playing in the playhouse (I was so jealous - and I still don't know how we fit in there), your rabbit, and spending numerous hours on Cottonwood...when I think of your family, I think of many - innumerous - fond memories! Thank you for sharing your grandparents with me. I'm sorry I won't be able to join you during this time - please know that I will be praying for the entire family. I love you all!
Craig and family:
So sorry to hear of uncle Larry's passing' I have so many memories of Larry, Lucille, Gail and you.. We had so much fun camping together in the school bus at Spook Cave. He painted a "road runner" on the bus. Larry would come over and spend many hours at our antique shop discussing his treasures.
Craig and Family,
We were so sorry to hear about Lawrence's passing. We hope that the love of family and friends will comfort and strengthen you in the days ahead.
RIP Larry. I know how tough the last few years has been for you and especially the last year. Seeing your struggles has been heartbreaking but now knowing you are at peace with Lucille, Gail and other family members and friends is comforting. I have learned in the last year how much you and I had in common with our artistic abilities and wish I couldn't known you when you were younger so you could've taught me some things! You will live on in the artwork you created. I want to thank you for raising a good son whom I am proud to say is my husband. May God be with you.
Please accept our deepest condolences and sympathy at the passing of Larry....I worked with him as a young man at Goodfellow Sign and Neon Co.. I consider him a mentor and a friend in my early working years and came to appreciate the help that he provided to me and my late Mother and Father. Although I did not see often in the later years I am saddened by his passing. He was a good man....

My Uncle Lawrence was a wonderful man, always kind, and had a great smile and laugh! Always will remnmber all the indian heads he put in a coffee table he made in his home when I would visit as a child! He was married to my dad's sister Lucille and together they were just the best, so many happy memories of them. Rest in peace Uncle Lawrence, and say hello to Aunt Lucille and Gail for me and send them my love also...Unitl we meet again, Cindy Hamer Thomas
Dad I know we had our differences over the years but we always found a way to work thru things in the end.
Dad you were a big influence in my life shaping me into the person I am today.
I now find peace knowing that you are no longer suffering with all the pains that you had.
I'm sure that you, Mom and Gail are once again together and I'm sure it was a happy reunion.
Rest in peace Dad and thank you for all you did for me during your life.
I love you Dad.
Craig
Craig & Amanda, thinking of you and your family during is difficult time. Larry was a great man & will be so missed. We are so sorry for your loss. Thoughts & prayers are with you all.
Craig, you are right; if he gets any where close, your mother will give him a hand up.
Whether they flit about with the breezes, or they are destined to eternal sleep, God bless and keep them both, and Gail...together again?
The past is past and cannot be changed; remember the good times.
