Sandra "Sandy" Slothower
1928 - 2011
Condolences
I worked at Melrose Meadows where Sandy lived. She was my favorite resident to just sit and talk with before and after meals. She always had something nice to say and something to cheer me up if I was down. She will be missed so much at Melrose and everywhere she went. She would always tell me stories about being a librarian and tell me how wonderful teaching was for her. She loved all of us at Melrose like we were her family and I will always miss seeing her sitting at the center table surrounded by all her friends.
I went to Coralville Central in the 70's and 80's. I remember going to the library and seeing Sandy there all the time. She was a great lady and really encouraged me and all the other students to love reading. she also taught us to push ourselves to learn as much as possible. I looked forward to hearing the storys she would tells us about new books that came in to the library. she is the reason I love to read. I was sad to hear of her passing and my thoughts and prayers are with family and friends. There are people in life that make a difference in others lives without even trying. she was my difference I will laways be greatful to her. You have my deepest sympathy in this difficult time
Sherri and family,
I will forever remember Sandy and what a wonderful giving person she was. Everyone who knew her was touched by her warm and sunny personality which was a joy to be around. Every time I talked to her on the phone she gave me such a hard time in her kidding manner and I always felt so good when we finished our talks...... I will miss her.
I feel bad I missed the visitation, I had my times wrong! Tim, Tammi, Jeff and Sherri, you all have my sympathy. There are some good memories from when we farmed your farm. I remember one time coming over for supper and it was a good one, and we had homemade ice cream that had some small chunks of butter in it from the churning while making it. It was still very good though! Sandy was a very nice lady!
We are so sorry to hear of Sandy's illness and passing. what a loving and giving woman who loved her family so very much. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

We always enjoyed her waving hand as she drove to and from your house. Your in our thoughts and prayers, may all your wonderful memories of your mom and dad comfort you in this time of sorrow!
We enjoyed working with Sandy and her sense of humor was entertaining. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
I really enjoyed the time I spent with Sandy when I worked at Melrose Meadow where she was a resident. Sandy was always so kind and had a great sense of humor that it was always a pleasure to be around her and I know she will be truly missed.
Our hearts go out to the whole Slothower family. Sandy was like a mother to us and will be missed. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am so sorry to hear of Sandy's death. She was a good person and was very kind to me when I worked with her at Coralville Central. I will never forget her laugh. She will be greatly missed.
Our prayers are with all of Sandy and Don's family. I lived within a couple of blocks from both of them in the early 1940s. The Riverside Methodist Church was the center of our lives and activities. Methodist Youth Fellowship, choir. and youth orientated social activities shaped and molded the character of our unique group as we grew in stature with God and man. They continued their service to the community and the Church for the rest of their lives
As long as I can remember it has been Don and Sandy the couple that Carol and I honor today. I wish that you could have been privy to the stories and tales pf the good old days that we shared whenever we got together. The memories of our friendship and times we shared with Sandy, Don and their families will never fade. Their journey of faith and service will long endure.

Tammi--
I remember Sandy as being one of the most gracious women I ever met. Whenever we would encounter one another, she was always so genuinely friendly and kind. I heard her described by someone who knew her well as "a wonderful force to be reckoned with in all the best possible ways." What a marvelous way to be remembered. My prayers are with all of you.
im so sorry to here about sandy's passing :( i enjoyed getting to know her when she worked at central and getting to know her even more working at melrose. it was also great getting to know her family when they came to eat with her Wednesday nights. sandy always brought a smile to my face and its not going to be the same without her sitting at the middle round table in the center of the room. she really was like a grandmother to me and i am going to miss her greatly.
Tammi, Tim, Jeff, Sherri and all of the family -
Tammi, Tim, Sherri and Jeff,
I have so many fond memories of Sandy at Coralville Central, Coralville Library and during all of the time I spent with your family in both Coralville and at your farm, as we were growing up. Sandy always treated me like family and was always so pleasant and caring. My thoughts are with you.
These few words cannot how grateful I am to be your grandson. You always took such good care of us... throwing "tea parties" at the farm, cooking hearty ham dinners, hosting wonderful events at Melrose Meadows and going on shopping spree's at Coral Ridge Mall. You will be missed so much, but your legacy will continue forever through your family, your friends, and your former students from Coralville. We love you so much and miss you, but we rejoice that you've been reunited with grandpa through your incredible faith in God. Love, Michael
Tim,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time. Take Care,
Martha
