Obituary of Sandra Wilker

Sandra (Meardon) Wilker 78, of Lone Tree died Tuesday, December 13, 2011, from injuries she received in a car accident in rural Johnson County. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Following services there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments for family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Sandra's memory to something near and dear to her heart, the welfare of animals. Donations can be made to the Iowa City Animal Society. Online condolences may be made sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Sandra Meardon was born June 28, 1933, in Iowa City, the daughter of Edward C. and Kathryn (Hill) Meardon. She attended schools in Iowa City graduating from City High School. She went on and attended the State University of Iowa. Sandra married Richard Wilker in October of 1956, and the couple and their family resided in Creston for many years. She returned to this area where she lived near Lone Tree. She was a member of the DAR, and was one that loved all living creatures, large and small. Often caring for dogs, cats, and other wildlife around her home. Her family includes her children, Lori Collins (John) of Springville, IA; Richard Wilker (Jeanie) of Cambridge, IL; Terri Walter (Doug) of Kearny, MO; and Tim Wilker of West Branch; 6 grandchildren, Carrie, Joseph, Ethan, Stephen, Heath, and Hayden; 3 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Ethan, and Brian; sister, Marilyn Adams of Santa Maria, CA; and brothers, Edward "Teddy" Meardon (Barbara) of West Branch; Jerry Meardon of Oelwein and Sandra's special friend, Dean Atkinson of Lone Tree. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 sisters, Dianna Greer and Janice Moon. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Sandra's family and her services.
