Obituary of Evelyn Rae Rotter
Evelyn Rae Rotter, 73 lifetime resident of Iowa City, died peacefully at the home of her daughter on Saturday, January 7, 2012.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2012, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established
Evelyn Rae Elliott was born January 22, 1938, in Iowa City the daughter of Raymond and LaFawn (Hedges) Elliott. She attended Iowa City Schools graduating from City High with the class of 1957. Evelyn enrolled at the Iowa City Commercial College where she learned many office and business skills that would be applied when she began a career with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a secretary. She later transferred into housekeeping from which she retired in later years.
She had been a member of the Free Methodist Church and the Church of the Nazarene both of Iowa City. Evelyn loved animals, her dogs, birds and other rescue animals were the lucky ones when Evelyn took you home. She also enjoyed listening to classical and jazz on the radio, but most of all, she dearly loved her family, especially as the grandchildren starting coming along. Hours after Evelyn's death, her first great-granddaughter, Gracie Jo was born, a special day for all of their families!
Her family includes her two children, Thomas Chapman of Iowa City; and Mary Elliott (Mike Millice) of Wellman; 2 brothers, Larry Elliott (Kathy) of North Liberty, and Steven Elliott of Buckeye, AZ; 2 granddaughters, Mikayla and Claire Chapman, a great-granddaughter, Gracie Jo Chapman; 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 3 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Carl Chapman, Kleeman "Jack" Thews, and Bennie Rotter.
