Obituary of Dale D. Nicoson

Dale D. Nicoson, 78, of Iowa City, died Monday, January 16, 2012, at his home. A memorial service celebrating Dale's life will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, January 19th at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Private inurnment with military honors will take place Friday at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials in Dale's name may be made to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to Dale's family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Dale was born November 27, 1933, in Iowa City; son of Sam L. and Geraldine E. (Rankin) Nicoson. After school, Dale served in the U.S. Air Force where he developed his passion for flying. Dale loved to fly, operate his HAM radio and help out where he could. He was a people person and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He was also an active participant with the Johnson County Veterans Affairs for many years. Christ was an important part of Dale's life and he was a long time member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. His family includes his son, Greg (Diana) Nicoson of Columbia, SC, and their children, Jonathon, Christopher, and Elizabeth Nicoson and a sister, Sue Klein of North Field, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is caring for Dale's family and his services.
