I was one of the lucky students to have the incredible opportunity to have Mrs. Marden as a fifth grade teacher. Mrs. Marden not only made the classroom a learning place, she made it a fun place to learn. She was always willing to hear a story or maybe participate in a prank. I can still see her wonderful smile and hear her infectious laugh. However, when it was time to start learning for the day, all she had to say is, "Class..." and we knew she meant business.
For years after leaving Grantwood Elementary, Leisa Watson Jolstad, Janet Goodfellow Klosterman and I would return each year to help Mrs. Marden pack up her classroom for the summer and then return to help her set it up for the fall. We all had a great time. It was most definately, time well spent. After her retirement we would then visit her at the Englert Theater.
While my own children were going through school, I always hoped they would have a teacher just like Mrs. Marden. There were so many things to admire about Mrs. Marden. Mrs. Marden cared, she made you feel important, and she held you accountable. She truly made a difference.
