I was so shocked and sorry to hear when I heard of John's passing! I have really enjoyed getting to know you both this past few weeks. He was a very special man and will be greatly missed. Your whole family have my greatest sympathy!

I am saddened to learn of John's passing. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family and friends. I worked for John in Bioengineering at the University of Iowa. He was a mentor, a financial advisor, a confidant, and most of all a friend of the best kind. I remember fondly our fishing days when we would go Kent Park together. We seldom caught anything, but that was not why we went.

How sad I am to read of John's passing in the Press-Citizen online. I fondly remember the family get-togethers with the Emdes when I was young, and was so pleased when John married my friend Betty's sister! I think I looked at him with a "big brother" image.
